I attended a wonderful event in Richmond last night and I’m so excited to tell you all about it today!
I left my little town of Waynesboro yesterday to head over to the big city of Richmond, Virginia to watch a live interview with John and Sherry Petersik of Young House Love. If you are part of the blogging world or have searched the internet for DIY projects then I’m sure you have heard of them. It was interesting to hear their story of how their blog started and took off and I really appreciated them sharing their experinces on blogging and social media. I stumbled across their website when they were in their first home several years ago, just after we bought our for-sale-by-owner-in-dire-need-of-TLC house. I was looking for some ideas and I found them…and have been following along ever since.
The best part about this event is that the proceeds went to CARITAS of Richmond. CARITAS is a nonprofit organization providing services for those who are homeless or struggling with addiction. It’s a wonderful organization and I am honored they invited me to this event. Really, it was Megan of the Sweet Sauce blog who reached out to me about CARITAS. She works part-time with them and has her fabulous fashion blog. She put a lot into the event last night and she really has a heart for CARITAS.
The Twitter post above is a photo Megan took during the interview last night. The show took place at the Hippodrome Theater and the interview was lead by Roben Farzad, host of Full Disclosure Radio on NPR. He did a fantastic job leading the interview and the setting was nice. It wasn’t the large crowd I had expected with arranged seating and all. It was an intimate setting in a large dining area where guests watched the interview and sipped on their cocktails….and I had water (*life of the party, here*).
After the interview, John and Sherry stayed to sign their best selling books and visit with guests. They spent a lot of time talking to everyone and they were so fun and friendly. AND, I finally had the chance to meet several of my fellow Virginia Bloggers! It was really neat meeting all of them in person and finally hearing the real voices behind all their blog posts I have been reading over the last year or so. We do a link-up every week and they have been so supportive of my blog and we all have a great time each week getting to network and share.
We all got together for a photo with John and Sherry, but there was more than one photographer so not all of us were looking in the same direction.
Let me introduce this awesome group of bloggers to you (LtoR): Ariel of Scotch & Nonsense | Liz of I Heart Vegetables | Whitney of Worthy Style | Samantha of Designer in Teal | (skip me) | John and Sherry of Young House Love | Megan of Sweet Sauce Blog | Brittany of Eating Bird Food
Such a fun night…and I finally got my hands on their book, Lovable Livable Home. I can’t wait to see all the ideas this book is filled with.
I also had it signed by John and Sherry. The book came with this silver rhino which I thought was cool. I told my husband we’ll have to do something fun with it, like make it a hood ornament for the mini-van or something. Anything would help that old clunker out.
Sorry, couldn’t avoid my reflection in the shiny rhino as I was photographing it. Thanks for signing my book, John and Sherry…and for the rhino. I think it needs a name.
Thanks so much to Megan and CARITAS for reaching out to me about this event and their organization. To learn more about CARITAS and ways you can help this organization, please visit their website at caritas.org. If you live nearby in the Richmond area, follow them on Facebook and Twitter to receive updates on any items they might need. They have an online furniture store called the Gathered Goods Marketplace where they accept donated items and sell them to support their operations. They also need donated items for the families and individuals they serve in the community. It’s the time of year for spring cleaning, so please consider them if you are looking for a place to donate.
Thank you Megan, CARITAS, Virginia Bloggers, Full Disclosure Radio, and John and Sherry for an awesome evening in Richmond. It was nice to get out of my small town for an evening and have this experience. I did manage to get lost after I left, but as I told Megan…it’s not often I get to see skyscrapers!
