I’m not really much of a decorator. I can do a lot with power tools and a paint brush, but when it’s all finished, I have a hard time pulling all the decorative pieces together.
I posted this furniture makeover last week and found a nice spot for it right in the middle of my living room/ dining room combo. It looks like it will make a nice storage piece but like any piece of furniture in my house, the location can change at any time.
I thought about how I wanted to decorate it and considered going to buy some new pieces for it, but decided to search around the house for pieces I already have. It was fun putting things together and changing them around…and changing them around again. I have to give credit to my blogging friend Dagmara from Glamista Home for being my inspiration as I was deciding how to decorate this piece. I love how she had her frames overlapped and the pretty flowers she decorated with in her living room. I haven’t quite achieved her gorgeous decorating style yet, but I will keep following her lovely blog for more ideas! Thanks, Dagmara!
Truthfully, only one of the frames will stay. I swiped the smaller white frame from the kitchen wall to see how it would look and I think it fits nicely there. That means I will be shopping at Target soon to pick up another frame that size. The mirrored frame will stay…and I absolutely love that photo of our kids.
The frames were the newest pieces of everything I used to decorate with. I found my Grandmother’s Better Homes and Gardens Decorating Ideas book (from the 60’s) and her small glass pitcher to use as a vase for my fresh cut hydrangeas. My Southern Living Landscape Book helped prop it all up and added some color. I also wanted to include an old typewriter I found at a local used furniture shop a while back. It was one of those things I just wanted and it was cheap, so I bought it…but I had no idea what to do with it. I think I found a great spot for it now.
I’m sure I will add and take away pieces over time but I am pretty happy with how it looks now considering I’m not much of a decorator. I will say it is surprising what you will find if you just do some searching around your house before going to buy all new pieces. I never would have thought to use my Gramma’s small pitcher for a vase before, until I needed something just that size for my flowers. And of course, fresh cut flowers are always a nice and simple addition to decorate with!
