I guess it seems a little odd that I am decorating my kitchen around this tiny yellow clock. Yellow is a nice color for a kitchen and I do love the retro pieces such as this, but it really starts with the story behind it. This clock used to hang on the wall in my husbands Grandparents old farm house, so it holds a little memory of their home and the times we spent there (especially for my husband). My mother-in-law was so kind to surprise us by giving us this clock for Christmas last year. I can’t think of a better gift than a family piece that has been passed down for others to enjoy and have a happy reminder of the past.
This kitchen has been quite a project, starting with painting my cabinets and remodeling the fireplace. The room is really a kitchen/family room combo, but we really didn’t need another room to watch TV, so we just made it one big kitchen. The room not only has a fireplace, but also an 8 ft. sliding glass door…which is why you see 84 in. curtains in my board. I decided I had enough of the plain looking vertical blinds we had up for the last seven years.

I painted the kitchen Saybrook Sage (Benjamin Moore) when we bought the house. I think it’s a nice color, but I was ready to brighten it up with the lighter blue shade. I think the yellow accents look great with the paint color and the large canvas print will add more color and cover a lot of space on the open wall just behind my kitchen table. I would like to hang the pendant light above the table and have the rug underneath to add some color and contrast against the darker floors I plan on installing at some point. For now, it will be nice to have the rug cover the hideous tile floor that’s in there.
The blue tile included in my idea board is the tile I think I have settled on to complete the floor in front of the fireplace. Adding the tile and a few more decorative pieces will be all I need to complete the fireplace makeover.
Here’s a quick recap of the kitchen projects I have completed:
So far, I have painted and hung the curtains. I am excited to finish decorating soon and get my kitchen looking like I want it…and get the clock up on the wall!
More to come…
