Have you seen the Heidi Swapp™ DIY Marquee Love® Letter Kit’s at Michaels Craft Stores? I have wanted one ever since I have started seeing them all over Pinterest and Instagram. I gathered some ideas last week from Michaels Pinterest page for my bedroom makeover, and got the idea to do this small and simple project.
I loved the idea of the framed monograms and decided to put something similar together along with the marquee. Thanks to my handwriting, this project is far from perfect…sort of like love and marriage. I thought about using stencils for the lettering, but thought it would be too time consuming with everything I wanted to write.
I started with the following materials:
Artist’s Loft Necessities Canvas Value Pack, 16″ x 20″ (Includes two canvases)
Broad Line Paint Pen, Gold by Craft Smart
White Wood Letter K, 9″ by ArtMinds
Marth Stewart Satin Acrylic Craft Paint in Slate Gray.
I decided to write out the verse from 1 Corinthians 13 4-7, which was read at our wedding. I am certain this verse has been a part of many wedding ceremonies, and it has always been one of my favorites. I marked off every two inches on both sides of the canvas with a light pencil mark. A two inch space for writing would be plenty to read it from a distance while fitting most of the verse onto both canvases.
I started to write it out with pencil but quickly realized that wasn’t going to work. I just free-handed the script with the gold pen. When I was finished, I traced the wood monogram letter and tried to paint lightly so the script would be visible in the background. That didn’t work. The paint just looked really uneven, so I painted a solid color letter and went back over it with the gold pen.
Now, in comes the marquee…
Marquee Love Letter Kit, & by Heidi Swapp
I had so much fun putting this marquee together! I knew I wanted some red accents throughout the room, so I decided to add the red glitter tape on the sides and the red glitter inside as well. I found all the decorative pieces and the marquee’s all in the same section at my local Michaels store. I think the red is going to look nice in the room and definitely makes this project stand out.
