Finally, after several years of living with primer on the walls, the music room has a beautiful color! I thought this new paint color would look great but it looks better than we imagined. The color is Van Courtland Blue from Benjamin Moore and it is just perfect for a music room which will soon have colorful music pictures and artwork decorating the walls.
First, I gathered a few things on a mood board that I have my eye on to complete this music room, along with a few things we already have. The painting is done, we have the album storage shelves, and the Hendrix poster…because my husband loves Jimi Hendrix.
Paint- Van Courtland Blue (Benjamin Moore) | Album Storage- Kallax Shelving Unit (IKEA) | Jimi Hendrix Poster (All Posters) | Wall Decal Quote (Amazon) | Album Frames (Michaels) | Guitar Art Pillow (RedBubble)| Gray Tufted Chair (Target) | Table/Desk- Tornliden/Oddvald (IKEA)
I have my eye on the chair and the desk/table above more than anything. We have a desk already but it is not the best quality and has certainly seen better days. My husband had a few album covers he wants to place in the album frames and I love the colorful pillow and the decal, which are lyrics from one of our favorite Stevie Wonder songs.
I’ll show you around the music room before we started organizing and got around to painting. Building the CD storage shelves was the best thing we could have done for this room. His CD’s were all over the room! And the shelves we bought to store the vinyl records were just $35 at IKEA. Not a bad price at all…and at least they got the records up off the floor.
Two words to describe the music room before: Clutter City! And we were surrounded by primer. Not such a good look.
I knew when I opened this paint can the color would be beautiful. I used Benjamin Moore’s Aura Bath & Spa for this project because it is mildew resistant, which I thought would work better since this room is in our basement.
I don’t think we could have chosen a better color for this room. I especially love how the organ looks against the paint color. We lucked out when we found that organ at our local used furniture shop at a very reasonable price…well, cheap actually. It sounds beautiful too!
We have this extended area in the room which is perfect for the drum set. The doors just lead to closet space and with four doors to paint in this room, the white trim paint was the most time consuming job of this project.
I love how the white paint stands out with the dark blue…and our daughter’s pink guitar adds a little color!
Here is the CD storage shelf that we built a while back. My husband still enjoys collecting CD’s and most everything on his iPod was downloaded from his CD’s. He doesn’t really purchase digital music. I know, we are old school music collectors.
Here are the shelves we found at IKEA for the vinyl records. If you collect vinyl’s, I would definitely recommend these shelves…they are a perfect fit for albums.
Now that the big painting job is done it’s time for the decorating fun to begin! We can’t do it all at once though. Finding things that fit within our budget takes time. We have been in this house for eight years now and it’s taken that long to get this room where it is now. I will certainly update as this project moves along. But for now, I will just keep staring at this lovely paint color as I listen to my little family band.
