Several weeks ago, this old chair was sitting by the curb in my neighborhood with a sign that read, “free”. Well, of course I had to stop and pick it up along with the adorable wooden school desk that was right beside it. The first thing that came to my mind was turning this chair into a planter but then I thought I had seen so many of them, I began to think of other ways I could use it.
I thought about painting it and placing a nice fluffy pillow on it and hanging cat toys underneath for my cat. I decided not to since doesn’t play with cat toys very much…and since her favorite spot in the house is right beside the heat/AC register. I just knew that wouldn’t work.
So, here it is now, repurposed as a plant stand. I know there are so many out there on Pinterest and all, but I still wanted to share it since I love how it turned out. I found a 16in. hanging basket at Home Depot for around $11 and purchased a can of Rust-Oleum’s Painter’s Touch in Aqua (Satin) to paint it with. The color really brightened it up…and how can you go wrong with impatiens?
This was supposed to be be a quick and easy project, but my spray paint can was clogged and I had a lot of rough, raised spots after I painted. Lesson learned on my part to rinse out the top after the paint sits from a previous project (oops). I did sand some of them down but didn’t really stress it since it’s an outdoor piece that will get dirt and water on it. I just needed it to have a nice pop of color and function as a plant stand!
