Last month, I accepted the Pinterest Room Challenge, hosted by the Toolbox Divas. The purpose of the challenge is to tackle one concept or ‘pin’ each month that inspired us on Pinterest. Timisha, from the Toolbox Divas, really spoke truth when she mentioned all the lovely pins she had on her boards but had not yet devoted the time to complete the project. How true this was for me, especially!
That is why I accepted the challenge last month and tackled the bedroom project. This is exactly what motivated me to get it done and I am so happy with the results and love the look of our bedroom!
So, I have decided to accept the challenge again this month…this time it’s the kitchen! I am so excited because I have already tackled some larger projects in my kitchen such as painting the cabinets and building a fireplace mantel. Yes, my kitchen has a fireplace. It’s really a kitchen and family room combo, but we decided we didn’t need another room to watch TV…so we made it one big kitchen.
I painted the kitchen cabinets a few years ago, and what a difference that made!
Recently, I completed the fireplace mantel that I had in mind for quite a few years…
Now that I have those larger projects complete, here are a few other ideas I have in mind to complete my kitchen…
First, I really need to settle on a paint color. I have painted several paint samples on the walls trying to decide on the color I want. My kitchen is a little tricky because it is so dark in most places and really bright where the light comes in through my large sliding glass door. The colors can surprise you in a way by how different they look on each wall. I think I have decided on Ocean Air by Benjamin Moore for the paint color. I know that I am tired of seeing the paint sample spots all over the room.
Obviously I have a hard time making decisions. I finally narrowed it down to two colors when I was building my mantel. The top is Ocean Air and the bottom color is Iceberg, which is also a Benjamin Moore Color.
The other project I am thinking of involves my favorite part of the kitchen…my Grandaddy’s old butcher block. This butcher block sat in the old A&P grocery store that used to be in town. He worked there in the 50’s..and met my Grandmother there. This piece is so special to me since it has been passed down to me and is a part of our local history as well. I want to lightly sand the block and revive the wood with Watco Butcher Block Oil and paint the metal stand.
Not the best picture above, but there it is in the middle of my kitchen. It provides a nice work space for us, but really needs some work.
Now, here is a project I am really putting some thought into. The island we have now would provide more functional counter space if we put it against the wall underneath the cabinets above. I want the extra counter space to store smaller appliances but I also like the extra seating we have now. My thought is to move the cabinet against the wall and possibly find an old cabinet to re-purpose into an island for seating…or maybe even build one! We’ll see….
Ha! See all my paint samples all over the room?
I am also thinking of adding updated light fixtures that will brighten up the kitchen as well. Here are a few pendants I have my eye on from World Market…
I am looking forward to the changes this challenge will bring to my kitchen!! Thank so much to the Toolbox Divas for motivating me once again!
